Tad Hargrave of radical business

www.tadhargrave.com

Tad Hargrave - Marketing Coach for Hippies

Tad Hargrave is a hippy who developed a knack for marketing.

Despite years of activism, he finally had to admit he was a marketing nerd and, in the end, he became a marketing coach for hippies. Maybe it was because he couldn’t stand seeing his hippy friends struggle to promote their amazing, green and holistic projects. Maybe it was because he couldn’t keep a 9-5 job to save his life.

Whatever the reason, for almost a decade, he has been touring his marketing workshops around Canada, bringing refreshing and unorthodox ideas to conscious entrepreneurs and green businesses that help them grow their organizations and businesses (without selling their souls). And, over the years, he has become recognized as a leader in the wider movement towards green and local economies.

Andrew McMartin - Traditional Skills Teacher

"Imagine if we could create programs for kids and adults that were good for the environment. Not less bad for the environment, but improve it's health on every level. Imagine that everything we did used totally natural, local resources, and motivated individuals to always give back to the land before we took from it. What would an adult act like that grew up in such an environment? What would a community look like that was based upon those principles?"

Andrew is the founder of The P.I.N.E. Project, a small non-profit organization created to connect people and place through nature based learning and play.  He's psyched about making clothing out of locally harvested hides and roadkill, eating plants that others think are weeds, and spending time in nature, whether that be his front lawn, High Park, or far far away wilderness.

He is currently working on his stick collection, and you'll often find him pretending to be a coyote with his morning class of 4-6 year olds. In his off time he busies himself making messes around his house.

Alex, pictured here with the 'brains' behind the Big Dream Program, helps Life-Renegades design their Life-Direction and income. Folks who are creative, entrepreneurial, and want to make a difference in the world...  folks who want to travel, learn and explore - who are in life for the experience of it and feel trapped by 'status-quo' need VERY different tools to move forward. Fortunately, they don't have to 'find' their Calling, they can design it. In workshops across Eastern Canada and online in 12 countries, Alex, despite his bizarre accent, propensity to colourful language and other assorted weaknesses, has been helping people go sailing, start businesses, become healers, record albums, take a year off in Ireland, quit nasty jobs and otherwise do what they were born to do...

From commercial diver, to Reiki Master, to Head Lad at the Big Dream Program, Alex has been following his heart all his life and says he's grateful now to have a business that makes him cry every time someone achieves their dream, because he knows what it feels like. She also founded Down 2 Earth Designs when she was 18, offering it as a collective opportunity for people to create conscious clothing together. Materials, of course, included hemp, as well as reclaimed materials.

She writes of her experience meeting her business partner Jen:

"Jen invited Lauren to her house, where she was currently experiencing her menstrual cycle, or her moon cycle, as she likes to call it. There, Lauren was introduced to historical and mythological beliefs that the moon and menstruation, under peaceful conditions can become synchronous. We also talked about moon lodges, and the sacred rights of menstruation. The idea of menstruation being something sacred stuck, and we have created agreements surrounding our menstrual cycle ever since. When we were working in cafes together, if one sister was bleeding, and had to work, the other would cover for her. Now that we run a business together, we are sure to create space for the other to retreat when she is mooning."

Philip Ames - Holistic Counselor & Therapist

"I came from a severely dysfunctional and unhappy family. But, after years of stuggle, I found the therapeutic community called Therafields in 1970 and began to get help. In 1973 I collapsed completely and was moved to live at the community’s farm in Orangeville where I stayed for three years, working for my therapy, paying no fees. This was when I began training as a therapist, I could think of nothing I wanted to do more than be like my hero Lea Hindley-Smith, the lady who started the community, as she loved and helped me. It was many years before I realized this was not just a case of hero worship but the passion of my life, it is the work I do to be happy. I’ve always done this work as a volunteer while working at whatever jobs I could get until I started a practice in 1990. Since then I have worked full or part time as a counsellor or head of a counselling department.

In the last four years I have made a major discovery for myself as I decided to intensively research a topic that was getting more and more attention, the Law of Attraction.

Gradually, I worked at rebuilding my mind with the new worldview that was necessary; to see the universe as a friendly place that passionately wants all of us to succeed. That, as you may have imagine, was a massive leap given how I had been ‘treated’ by life."
