![]() | Tad Hargrave - Marketing
Coach for Hippies Tad Hargrave is a hippy who developed a knack for marketing. Despite years of activism, he finally had to admit he was a marketing nerd and, in the end, he became a marketing coach for hippies. Maybe it was because he couldn’t stand seeing his hippy friends struggle to promote their amazing, green and holistic projects. Maybe it was because he couldn’t keep a 9-5 job to save his life. Whatever the reason, for almost a decade, he has been touring his marketing workshops around Canada, bringing refreshing and unorthodox ideas to conscious entrepreneurs and green businesses that help them grow their organizations and businesses (without selling their souls). And, over the years, he has become recognized as a leader in the wider movement towards green and local economies. |

![]() | Beth Martens - Yoga Teacher & Musician An emotional and spiritual pioneer, Beth
Martens has a knack for offering people the opportunity to explore life
at a deeper level. People who engage with her are taken on a journey of
music, yoga, meditation, and spiritual and emotional awakening.
Offering inspiration through sharing her life story as a two-time cancer
survivor, Beth Martens has been quietly discovered by a niche market
who follow her career with high affinity. Eight
trips to India, now bringing and "eastern" approach to the Western
World, Beth Martens uses soul-driven lyrics, mantra and interactive
ecstatic chant to music to attract an audience into an experience,
rather than just offering an additional song or two to add to one's
iPod. Musician, Yoga Instructor, Singer, Songwriter, and Kirtan Leader
are just a few of the hats worn by Martens, as she continues to offer
new unique breakthrough experiences to those who have discovered her
career.

nicolewpg (at) shaw (dot) ca | Nicole Choptain - Holistic Nutritionist I’m a holistic nutritionist that believes in eating well and teaching people to LISTEN to their bodies and the great wisdom within to create their best life possible – through FOOD! Crazy I know but it is so much fun and very rewarding when true lifestyle changes are made. I also am a cofounder of a local movement called THE FOOD LABEL MOVEMENT. Look for us online in a month or so. We are organizing a march here in Winnipeg to promote a better food labeling system. Forget burning your bra, we are burning food labels and all the false and misleading information on them! Looking forward to meeting you all! As a Certified Holistic Nutritionist (CHN) through the Alive Academy of Natural Health, I integrate the concepts of mind-body nutrition with current scientific knowledge and literature. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in microbiology and biochemistry. Fuelled by a desire to connect more deeply with people I completed a Master of Science studying the preferences, attitudes and behaviors of environmental travellers. However, upon graduation, the knowledge I gained was so applicable to health care that I worked in health care research for nine years. While this brings a wealth of experience to what I do, my knowledge base is also supported by my own personal health practices and learning to listen to my own body which has brought great healing. They say a fountain has many sources and it is with these holistic, scientific, and personal sources I offer my wisdom to you to help you find your own inner wisdom. Nameste. |

![]() | Carolin Vesely - Hippie Journalist
Carolin's first newspaper gig was at a rural Alberta weekly where the reporters shared a typewriter and developed and printed their own photos. In the darkroom, the sink drained into a bucket that had to be emptied into the toilet across the hall. After a few more stints covering bull sales, grasshopper infestations and two-headed calves at other Prairie weeklies, Carolin landed a reporter position at her hometown paper, the Lethbridge Herald. Carolin spent a year backpacking in Australia before continuing along the Thomson newspapers trail, with stints at the Medicine Hat News and Thunder Bay Chronicle-Journal. She landed at the Free Press in 2000 following a queasy encounter with some bad pickerel in Kenora. Carolin has worked as a general assignment reporter, editorial writer, copy editor, lifestyle writer, features editor and columnist. She gave up photography after her equipment was stolen during a trip to the Czech Republic and currently explores the lighter side of life as a feature writer in the Free Press's lifestyles/entertainment department. Carolin holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Montana, where she earned a William Randolph Hearst Foundation in-depth writing award for an honours project on gambling in Montana's remote Indian reservations. Although she works for The Man, Carolin is a hippie at heart and supports raising the consciousness of all things -- commerce included. In her professional life as a feature writer, she strives to slip as many stories as possible about things holistic, spiritual, community minded and otherwise hippie-ish into the mainstream media. |

Keith Dyck - Musician This boy’s been making magic and music all of his life. The product of a
musical family, Keith spent most of his childhood playing every
instrument he could put his hands on and learned to play literally at
his fathers knee. Family get together's often turned to hootenannies led
by the strum’n of the banjo.
Keith's experience and accolades speak for themselves, but what raises
him above the crowd is a deep understanding of the inspiring, and
healing effects of music. His energy, willingness, and vibe, if you
will, extends far beyond the stage and enriches any event of which he is
part. |

![]() | rebecca mccormack - clothing designer When Rebecca McCormack opened the doors to her Exchange District boutique over six years ago she never imagined where the ride would take her. Rebecca’s hard work, business savvy and fashion sense have brought her opportunities that most girls only dream about, like owning one of “the” fashion boutiques in Winnipeg and designing her own line of dresses. This past August, Rebecca moved her successful boutique from its original location on Albert to a brighter, bigger location down the road on McDermot Avenue. The new location’s soaring 20-foot ceilings, bright 12-foot windows and historic feel are the perfect backdrop for her dress collection. One look at the dresses Rebecca designs and it’s easy to see why bride’s and bridesmaid’s can’t get enough of them. Cake dresses come in all the right colours, they’re fashion forward, comfortable and most importantly versatile! They’re the kind of dresses that you can actually wear again and again and again. Not only are the dresses versatile, but also very well priced. All of this hasn’t gone unnoticed as Cake dresses are sold in 40 stores across Canada and making their way into the US. The Spring line of Cake dresses is now available, check-out her dresses in person or online at cakeclothing.com. |

Karina Cardona - Community Organizer I currently work on numerous community projects that seek to engage marginalized groups of older adults and youth through dialogue, art-making and access to transportation. I conduct research for the Institute of Urban Studies, create collaborative murals with youth and have an educational background in Environmental Studies and Geography. I am ever-broadening my concepts of sustainability through dimensions of social engagement. So I am in the 'business' of taking in opinions, repackaging issues and selling seeds for solutions through ideas. Mostly, this means developing creative consultation and communication techniques, network development and collaboration with community coalitions. Building confidence in individuals that capacitates them to take action in their lives, homes and communities is my goal. |

Dominique Smith - Curio Shop Owner Hello! I am the proprietor of Elemental Book and Curiosity Shop which is
soon to be opening on Langside in late October. This shop has been in
the works since 2004 with its original incarnation as a home based
business call Cloaked Realm ~ Pagan Emporium. Transforming into a brick
and mortar shop will allow the business to expand its product and
service offerings beyond the Wiccan/Pagan niche market that Cloaked
Realm was originally targeted to. I envision a not so common
"newage/metaphysical" bookstore that serves a diverse demographic while
still holding true to our roots. I look forward to serving the community
and building strong relationships. |
